Rock 'n' roll, by the year 1955, had become a planetary phenomenon. Blending black American blues, rhythm and blues and country music, rock 'n' roll was more than a musical genre, however. It was a culture in its own right, generating stars such as Elvis Presley and Fats Domino as well as an array of movies, comic books and so on.
